Thinking About Finishing Your Massachusetts Basement?

We Finish Basements in Massachusetts

Thinking about finishing your Massachusetts basement? Massachusetts residents, in search of additional living space, often make the decision to finish the basement of their home.  The benefits are obvious as the basement area may be turned into a home office, home theater, family room or a play area for children.  This makes perfect sense as the basement is often used as little more than a laundry room with lots of square footage left unused as “dead space.”  In addition, the cost of finishing a basement calculated on a square foot basis is a fraction of adding an addition to a home.  However before the decision is made to finish a basement the fact that water will find its way into most basements over time must be considered, especially in Massachusetts where we have rainy springs.  The savings realized when finishing a basement rather than adding an addition will be lost if the finish work in the basement is ruined by water seepage. Paying to do the same job twice is never a good idea.  Also water seepage may lead to mold and other contaminants which affect the air quality in the basement.  Poor air quality is obviously unhealthy for all people and may have a particularly harmful impact on children.  Thus before a basement is finished, a four wall perimeter drainage system with a high quality sump pump should be installed.  Think of this as purchasing insurance for the costly construction work that you have undertaken.  Also unlike traditional insurance which requires an ongoing, and never ending, monthly premium payment, this type of insurance needs to be purchased only once.  Don’t roll the dice when finishing your basement.  Have the aforementioned drainage system installed and then enjoy your new living space worry free.  Piece of mind is priceless.  We all have enough things to worry about in our lives that we cannot control.  Why not avoid problems in the future and paying for the same job twice?  It makes too much sense to just do the job right the first time.
